Vintage Polish Posters | Secret Mission | Mleczko

The play Secret Mission opened in 1980, was directed by Krzstztof Jasinski, based on a novel by Soviet writer and musician Bulat Okudzhava, which featured lines from a poem by Yevgeny Yevtushenko. This painterly, fantastical poster, produced form an original work executed in watercolor, depicts figures reminiscent of those of Ralph Steadman walking across a tightrope through a sparse heavenly urban landscape. The poster artist is Andrzej Mleczko (b. 1949), a Polish illustrator mostly known for his satirical activities. He graduated from the School of Architecture at Cracow University of Technology. His works include painting, book illustrations, advertisements, scenography and posters. He has worked with Polish and foreign magazines, in which over 15,000 of his drawings have been published. In 1982 he opened his own art gallery in Kracow, and in 2002, opened a Warsaw gallery. Mleczko received a Cracovian Book of the Month award in November 2008 for his book Seks, Mydło i Powidło.
