Original Polish poster for a 1980 exhibition of Japanese posters, designed by renowned Polish artist Andrzej Pągowski.
Born in Warsaw in 1953, Pągowski is one of the leading figures of the younger generation of the Polish School of Posters. He graduated from the State University of Fine Arts in Poznań in 1978 and quickly established himself as an innovative poster designer. While poster art remains his primary focus, his creative work also includes theatrical set design, graphic prints, catalogs, and advertising.
In 1990, he founded his own graphic design studio, STUDIO P, which evolved into a successful advertising agency in 1993 and remains active today. He also served as Art Director of the Polish edition of Playboy magazine beginning in 1992.
Pągowski’s distinctive style is characterized by energetic, spontaneous imagery, expressive handwritten elements, and inventive typography. His works are held in major museum collections throughout Europe and in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. He has also been the subject of solo exhibitions in Stockholm, Paris, London, and Warsaw.
