L’incoronazione di Poppea<\/b><\/i> (The Coronation of Poppaea<\/i><\/strong>) is an Italian\u00a0opera<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Claudio Monteverdi<\/a>. It was Monteverdi’s last opera, with a\u00a0libretto<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Giovanni Francesco Busenello<\/a>, and was first performed at the\u00a0Teatro Santi Giovanni e Paolo<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Venice<\/a>\u00a0during the 1643\u00a0carnival<\/a>\u00a0season. One of the first operas to use historical events and people, it describes how\u00a0Poppaea<\/a>, mistress of the\u00a0Roman emperor<\/a>\u00a0Nero<\/a>, is able to achieve her ambition and be crowned empress. The opera was revived in\u00a0Naples<\/a> in 1651, but was then neglected until the rediscovery of the score in 1888, after which it became the subject of scholarly attention in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Since the 1960s, the opera has been performed and recorded many times. The poster artist Waldemar \u015awierzy<\/strong> (1931-2013) was a renowned Polish graphic designer and a pivotal figure in the Polish School of Posters. Born in Katowice, \u015awierzy graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krak\u00f3w in 1952. Over his prolific career, he created over 2,500 posters, contributing significantly to the cultural and artistic landscape of Poland. \u015awierzy’s work is characterized by its vibrant colors, dynamic compositions, and innovative use of typography.
