The Haunted Manor<\/b><\/i>\u00a0(Polish<\/a>:\u00a0Straszny dw\u00f3r<\/b><\/i>) is an\u00a0opera<\/a>\u00a0in four acts composed by Polish composer\u00a0Stanis\u0142aw Moniuszko<\/a>\u00a0in 1861\u20131864. The\u00a0libretto<\/a>\u00a0was written by\u00a0Jan Ch\u0119ci\u0144ski<\/a>. Despite being a\u00a0romance<\/a>\u00a0and a comedy, it has strong Polish\u00a0patriotic<\/a>\u00a0undertones, which made it both popular with the Polish public and unpopular \u2013 to the point of being banned \u2013 by the Russian authorities of\u00a0Congress Poland<\/a>. <\/sup>It is considered Moniuszko’s best opera and the greatest 19th-century Polish opera score. However, it is mostly unknown outside Poland.\u00a0<\/sup><\/sup>The poster artist is<\/span> Franciszek Starowieyski<\/b> (1930-2009). From 1949 to 1955, he studied at the <\/span>Academy of Fine Arts<\/span><\/a> in <\/span>Krak\u00f3w<\/span><\/a> and Warsaw.<\/span>[1]<\/span><\/a> He specialized in poster, drawing, painting, stage designing, and book illustration. He was a member of <\/span>Alliance Graphique International (AGI)<\/span><\/a>. Throughout his career his style deviated from the socialist realism that was prevalent during the start of his career and the popular, brightly colored <\/span>Cyrk<\/span><\/a> posters; however he did create one Cyrk poster <\/span>Homage to Picasso<\/span><\/i> in 1966.
